Corasrov Greytear was born into a noble Drow family in the jungles of Arn and as the eldest son was expected to advance the family line and rise through the ranks of the Drow inquisition as his father had before him. Naturally charismatic, and with an innate intelligence that bordered on the scary Corasrov showed great aptitude through his inquisitor training and soon became more than proficient in the dark skills of torture, and information extraction, however, unbeknownst to his family, Corasrov had far more interesting pursuits that he intended to follow.
From a young age Corasrov developed a love for money, especially money that wasn’t his. As a child he would try to steal from almost anyone he came into contact with, regardless of standing, which honed his skills as a pickpocket. He would also join raiding parties from the Underdark to the jungles of Arn to terrorise the Kuo-toa, a race of vile, fish-like, amphibious, aberrant humanoids who live at the intersection of the ocean and the Underdark and with whom the Drow were at war. A young Corasrov would follow them, using the chaos created to break into dwellings and take his pick from any treasures within. Corasrov’s love of money was only matched by his eye for beautiful women, an eye that was to ultimately ruin his family. It was not long after Corasrov completed his inquisitor training that he was to have a chance meeting with Lauralo Avanendis, the only daughter of the ruling family, and already promised in wedlock to another. It was lust at first sight for Corasrov, and he made a vow that Lauralo would be his, regardless of the risks involved and the rules that he would be braking. Using his position, which gave him access to the ruling household, and the wealth he had accumulated from his outside interests Corasrov engineered more ‘chance encounters’ with Lauralo. It was not long before Corasrov had both charmed and beguiled Lauralo, and they began to meet in secret to satisfy their now mutual lust. Overtime Corasrov took more and more risks to meet with Lauralo, frequently breaking into her chambers to be with her and this risk taking was to prove to be his undoing. One night, after Corasrov had scaled the trees surrounding the princesses’ chambers, they were caught by Lauralo’s mother who had come to her rooms to discuss her wedding. Although Corasrov escaped in the same way he got in, the queen recognised him, and he left with the screams of vengeance ringing in his ears. Corasrov knew that he had to flee, a thought that was more exciting than terrifying, and began to make his way home, through the trees he knew so well, to say goodbye to his family, and to grab as much of his money as he could. By the time he got near his families dwelling Corasrov knew that something had gone very wrong. Armed guards had blocked off the streets near his home and it seemed that the whole city was awake. Using the crowds for cover Corasrov manoeuvred himself towards his family home to be greeted by the site of his family being dragged into the streets by the inquisition. Corasrov watched as his father and brothers were killed and his mother and only sister were stripped of their titles, and banished to live among the lowest of the Drow. Their home was then burnt to the ground, and with it all the gold and treasure that Corasrov had secretly acquired over his years of thieving. Corasrov knew that his fate would be far worse should he be found, and with the cries of his mother and sister ringing in his ears he stole himself out of Arn and made his way into the wilds of Ederon. As with all Drow, Corasrov had heard tales of Drizzit Do’Urden but had no desire to commit himself to a life of selfless good, instead Corasrov vowed to carry on doing what he had always loved doing, taking risks, thieving, and looking for any opportunity to cause a little bit of trouble. As with Drizzit before him Corasrov soon came to understand that the vast majority of surface dwellers feared and hated him in equal measure, however, he also came to understand that even in Ederon there were elements of darkness in which his skills were greatly appreciated. Corasrov began to move from town to town, always watching, always listening (and often scamming), setting himself up as a rogue for hire for any criminal gang who wanted him, or had a job he found interesting. It was during this time he met Anders Blackstain a half Human, half Drow, borne from the unfortunate coupling of a human trade caravan and a Drow raiding party. Corasrov found Anders a useful compatriot, who acted as a liaison between the criminal elements of Ederon, and who would vouch for him when the all too typical suspicions would form. It was through Anders that Corasrov was able to get a message to his mother and sister, promising that he was safe and that he would send money when he could, although he stopped short of apologising for causing his families ruin, as this would imply that he had done something wrong, a concept that Corasrov did not even have a passing acquaintance with. Corasrov’s wanderings ultimately led him to the town of Newhaven, a town he had heard of frequently on his travels, where a friendly landlord would turn a blind eye to the more shady characters, and where, if one kept their wits about them, and their ears open, both money and trouble could be found.
